I also use garlic as an antiseptic. I find that it works better than salt for certain applications.
The problem I have with garlic is it is difficult to know whether the garlic I purchase is always the same quality. Much depends of the soil. For instance, garlic is said to be a source of selenium. If garlic is grown in soil that contains no selenium, then it cannot be a source of selenium.
While I am a great advocate of garlic and its benefits, one of the problems I have with people who tend to promote natural remedies is found in the following statements I found on Bob Anderson’s web site extolling garlic. www.gourmetgarlicgardens.com/
Studies by competent multi-degreed scientists have shown beyond any reasonable doubt that consuming garlic generally has the following physical effects:
• Garlic may help to remove heavy metals such as lead and mercury from the body.
• Garlic probably has other benefits as well.
When something is declared to be "beyond any reasonable doubt" and then is discredited by a degree of uncertainty with statements such as "may help" or "probably has", you are begin to doubt the benefits yourself.
However, Bob reflects upon the reason why more is not done to promote garlic, rather than drugs and their side effects, and concludes that
Perhaps the over-riding consideration may be that fresh garlic is a living thing that continuously changes and is extremely difficult, if not impossible, to quantify.
Many people swear by garlic. Yet garlic is not a panacea for everything. This is why I ensure I am getting optimum nutrition and have garlic every day as well as enjoying the benefits of Reliv.
If you are not getting optimum nutrition then you should begin getting the right products to help you. I have seen some remarkable results take place in people who have decided they no longer want to suffer from their ill health.
